First picture is really gorgeous. The key thing to focus on to improve is FRAMING the subject, i.e. composition. A great way to learn is to study other people's pictures. Take out a few photographic picture books from the library and study and analyse what makes a great picture. Next I think is sharpness of focus and clarity as well as a meaningful subject. I always take 5-6 mental pictures for every actual one I photograph. Usually this means I try framing the subject from different angles and distances. Here is an idea you can try. Pick a subject and take 10 pictures of it from different angles, high/low/oblique/direct, etc, and at different magnifications. Perhaps you might even post the results. Do let me know if you do.
